Anyone know how to keep a raccoon from hanging around your house?

Okay there is this (just guessing) 30 lb. raccoon that keeps hanging around my house at night. Hes not scared of humans he just stares at me and it freaks me out. I have 2 small cats and a new puppy, and im scared to let them out of the house due to this raccoon. Any tips on how to get rid of him.

a lot of raccoons go from house to house looking for food, but if the same one keeps coming....this is really stupid and weird....but it actually worked(except it went off on my neighbor). I put a bag of little hamster bedding outside the house, and i put a little bit of smelly food(like leftovers) in the bag too, and i mixed it up. I also put in this toy called phooseball(I think you might know it) and I guess other types of spring toys or something would work...I stuffed it in the middle of the disguisting stuff, and then I wrapped it up and put it outside(really really stupid...but the raccoon's supposed to rip the bag and get to the toy while eating....or something). If animals get scared, they never come near it again....from what i've experienced.Anyone know how to keep a raccoon from hanging around your house?
make sure that there is no food outside for him to eat
