Idk I think around 20 m/ph
not fast enough to make it across the road in front of me without getting hit.

Just ran over one last night. What a mess.
About 20 miles per hour.

There is a creature in my attic scratching at night.. I think it may be a raccoon. How can I get rid of it??

if it were a racoon you would have to have a fairly large hole somewhere where it got in. find it and patch it, but racoons sleep during the day so I would be careful if I were you. Can't see it being a coon though, as they would only come in if there were food to be had somewhere.

Likely it's not a racoon at all but a mouse. Scratching sounds louder when it's coming from inside a wall or an attic. put some mouse bain somewhere near where you heard the scratching, or set a trap. Mouse bain works better though, cause they eat it and dry up and die. There is a creature in my attic scratching at night.. I think it may be a raccoon. How can I get rid of it??
It is possible that it's a raccoon. But more likely it's a squirl. They are most commonly found on roof tops, and are masters of chimney duct work. Find a really strong smelling spray like Lysol or Clorox spray. Then give the attic a few nice sprays through a small access gap. The odor will be to much for the animals strong sense of smell. Then give the animal some time to leave on there own the way they came in. Remember not to use to much spray, and to locate there entrance hole and block it off when it is believed the attic is empty. There is a creature in my attic scratching at night.. call the animal control. they will come and get rid of it. my bf had one in his back yard that was not very nice and they had to call to cops and they came over and took care of it
Try to find out what they eat...and leave a little path towards the door, so it'll ghet out
give it a 30 day eviction notice :)
How brave are you? Hardware stores carry large ';live'; traps that let the animal in, but not out. Of course then you have to remove the trap with the animal in it. I'm not that brave - so I called my local wildlife and fisheries office - a very nice guy came out and set the traps for me and I called him when I caught our creature of the night - he came back and removed the traps for me - while I hid downstairs. Good luck, Sis
Call in the specialists........you dont know what the animal is and you dont know if its Rabid.....be careful....call around for quotes from your local animal control specialists... some wild animals can be quite vicious...be careful dont attempt the removal alone.. L.Butler
put mothballs up there when it is away
The simple solution is to set off a bug bomb in the attic and go outside and watch where you think they got in. If they don't exit within a few moments of setting off the bomb, then they are on a food gathering trip so you can be sure it is ok to seal up the hole or other access. They will try hard to damage or remove what ever you put there because they have food stored inside your attic so be prepared by making sure the hole cover is good and solid.

Good luck and please don't kill the animal. They deserve to live on this earth too!
its a qhost...tell it to go towards the light
Call the exterminator, and also have him check where he thinks the animal got there. If u have rats you will have many more.
Sounds pretty likely. Call your local animal control. If they can't help you they should be able to tell you who can. Whatever you do, don't poison the animal. It will die in the attack and the smell will last forever....PHEW.
Had the same problem. I live trapped them and took them about 10 miles away.

Putting a radio up there and leaving it on works.

Apparently constant strobe lights is the way to go, I just didn't have one.

You better get them out soon, the ones in my attic did serious damage to my soffits and had their babies up there. Try and find out where they are getting in, they are very tricky.

Let me tell you, it is a little scary sticking your head up in the attic the first time when you know they are up there.
This type of problem is best handled professionally, otherwise you risk damage to the attic and/or the animal(s) dying up there where they can't be removed. This webpage describes the trapping process for different animals in the attic:

www.wildlife.pro/how-to-trap
Havahart is the name of a company that make humane traps for animals (there are several other manufacturers -- search humane traps).

Put the trap in the attic baited with a piece of bread with peanut butter.

In the morning you will have a raccoon waiting for you! Contact animal control and find out how to dispose of it (don't let it go in the front yard as it will crawl back in your attic).
If you have nut trees by your house, I am betting it is squirrels. I don't know how to get rid of them, sorry.

Are motorized vehicles a raccoon's only natural enemy?

The only ones I see dead who don't appear to have died of natural causes, are the ones splattered on, or at the side of the road. Are motorized vehicles a raccoon's only natural enemy?
One time I had a baby raccoon hanging out on my porch swing. He was really cute; we named him Ricky. My roomie called animal control and they told her that raccoons were nocturnal and he would leave once it got dark. That night I peaked out to check, and Ricky was curled up in the recycle bin snoozing. A couple days later he disappeared. I'm sure his mom came and got him. I'm glad he left before that baby raccoon pelt appeared in our gutter. I'm sure that would have been traumatizing for him.

Oh so I won't be violated for chatting, how about Coonhounds and pioneers? I'm sure they don't use road kill to make their coonskin caps. Are motorized vehicles a raccoon's only natural enemy?
Thank you YAF. if you liked that story, I've got a million of them.

How can a motorized car be a ';natural'; enemy? Natural enemies would be cougars and bears and things like that.
Here in the concrete jungle it is definitely cars.
i hate those rabies infested critters. we have a lot of them here in Ohio. they are HUGE!!! yea...i gotta say gun or cars or even coyotes.

  • Is the panda bear really a part of the raccoon family?

i heard that on saturay and i was just wondering if it was true.Is the panda bear really a part of the raccoon family?
No, at this time they are classified as bears and the red panda is classified into a group that includes raccoons, however, it's clear that this is still in a state of flux because even the genetic evidence is contradictory. if you'd like a more in-depth but interesting read, try http://www.fathom.com/feature/122661/ind鈥?/a>Is the panda bear really a part of the raccoon family?
I believe you're thinking about the Red Panda.
It's a species of bear. Check the link for tons of info.
It is neither a bear nor a raccoon, although closer to the latter. Pandas are in the family Aeloropidae. Bears are in the family Ursidae. Raccoons are in the family Procyonidae. All are in the order Carnivora.
No. The Giant panda relates more to the bear family (discovered through genetic testing rather than just looking at it) than the raccoon family.
No. You can find more information about them at the San Diego Zoo and the National Zoo.

On a stuffed panda I bought at the San Diego Zoo, it says that the panda is a catlike mammal.

It is part of the bear family from what I've read on the internet.

Will our pet raccoon return home, He escaped his enclosure?

Our pet raccoon Robbie, got out last night and has been gone a day now. He was raised by us since his eyes opened, and he managed to escape his enclosure. He is 1 yr old, and very tame. Will our pet raccoon return home, He escaped his enclosure?
YOU CANNOT KEEP WILD ANIMALS AS PETS YOU DIPWAD.

he escaped because he realized that being kept in a cage all day was not were he belonged.

he did not escape, he went home. Will our pet raccoon return home, He escaped his enclosure?
It depends on a lot of factors. If he has been raised as a pet, he might not have any fear of humans or other animals that may hurt or kill him, so he might not come home. He might not be able to.

I hope that you realize that keeping a wild animal as a pet is illegal. Even in states that allow pet raccoons (and NOT every state does), you are not allowed to keep a wild raccoon. You must purchase one form a USDA breeder, or from a store or dealer that got it from a licnesed breeder.

If your wild raccon bites someone while it is roaming around, the health department will capture it and kill it to test it for rabies. Even if it comes home, and you continue to keep it (illegally), if it bites someone, it will be confiscated and killed. Also, your homeowners insurance will not cover any damage or injury caused by a wild animal in your possession. If it bites someone, the person it bites can sue you.

The very best thing you can do for this animal if it returns is to contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and surrender the animal. You can find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.鈥?/a> or here: http://www.wildliferehabber.org/

This is what you should have done when you first found it.

Licensed wildlife rehabilitators have the specialized training to care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals, and they have the required state and federal licenses that allow them to keep the wild animals until they are healthy enough to be released. They know how to recondition an animal that has been raised as a pet so that it can live a wild existence again, and be returned to its proper environment.
yes he will. if you guys were feeding him large amounts regularly, he will remember we he got fed and he will return.

Can a 800 fps air rifle in .22 caliber humanely take down a raccoon with proper shot placement?

I was wondering if I could make a clean kill, aiming for the heart/lungs on a raccoon using an 800 fps Beeman air rifle with a .22 caliber JSB Predator Polymag red tipped pellet???Can a 800 fps air rifle in .22 caliber humanely take down a raccoon with proper shot placement?
A 22 lr or short would be better. Can a 800 fps air rifle in .22 caliber humanely take down a raccoon with proper shot placement?
Pellet guns a great for killing anything you can hit - as long as it's paper. Getting close enough to kill a raccoon with a Beeman, and not have it turn on you, is tricky enough.

When doing it your way you have to be an expert shot with maximum air pressure, close range, and optimum impact. Most likely you are going to end up with a wounded animal that you have to kill some other way.
Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No.

Air rifles are not suitable for raccoon hunting. They simply don't have the power. While you might think that raccoons can be taken easily, they're actually very tough. They need a lot more power to be killed, even with a well placed shot. Shooting a raccoon with an air rifle, even one as powerful as the Gamo Hunter Extreme, would most likely just injure it. Then the animal would run away and die a slow, painful death. So don't try it.

Raccoons need a 22 long rifle to be taken down cleanly. You can get a very good semi auto 22 for 150 bucks. This is much more suitable for raccoons. Look at the Marlin 60 or the Marlin 795.
Is it ';possible'; to kill a raccoon with your rifle/pellet combination(22.7ft-lbs), yes, but, IMO that combination is not powerful enough to ensure a clean, humane kill, even with a head shot at close range.

I'm all for hunting with airguns, just so long as a hunter stays within the limits of their rifles capability and their own.

    Raccoon hunting - air rifle

    http://www.americanairgunhunter.com/racc鈥?/a>

IMO, a .22 lr is the best way to go when hunting raccoon, but if you have a .22 caliber air rifle capable of pushing 32gr(Eun Jin) pellets at a MV greater than 800fps then yes. A .22 caliber air rifle is capable of taking a raccoon if the hunter does his job.

    800fps with 32gr pellets = 45.5ft-lbs
I lot of people ask this question I am not a air gun expert but I have been hunting for over 20 years and I can tell you raccoon's are not easy to kill and if you want to take a raccoon humanely then you should stay away from air guns they just don't have the power. If you live in the city like I do and can't shoot a .22 or a shotgun I would trap them in a box trap. You can buy a box trap at most sporting goods store or gardening shop for between $30 and $50.After you trap them call your local animal control and they will pick it up and put right at your door step.
You probably could, but its better to aim for the head, it also depends on the distance. No offense but that one guys a idiot, at 800 fps the pellet will enter the skull, however you weapon of choice also depends on what you want with the pelt, where you live, and so on. A 22 long rifle would work better, however you have to be careful about others (obvious I know but I have to say this)
NO, NO, NO!!! 800fps from a pellet gun will barely kill a squirrel or rabbit and then only if you are within about 10 yards AND penetrate the skull. I've skinned literally hundreds of rabbits, squirrels, birds, and other small animals only to find pellets under their skin (some so badly infected the animal was close to dying) because somebody thought an air rifle would do more than it's capable of.
You dont shoot for the vitals because your pellet gun isn't going to deliver much of a shock wave to disrupt the vitals.. and it might not even reach the vitals at all.

With your pellet gun if you miss and hit the shoulder.. you have an injured coon with a pellet in its shoulder. If using a REAL .22 then the bullet will go right through the shoulder and into the vitals.

Trust me. You are going to quickly find out that your gun is not the best for killing coons even with head shots.
I've taken a few with a strong .177 air rifle. DON'T aim for the vitals though. Pellets won't get very far through the muscle/fat. A head shot within at most 20 yards will do it. Make sure you have some stiff pellets though, nothing that expands much. With headshots, penetration is king. JSB predators are usually great, but I'd go with something stiffer, like Crossman Premiers.

Some of you people don't realize what air rifles can do, nor do you realize that some people can't shoot a .22 in their yard, because they'll get swarmed by cops in about 5 seconds... If it's legal to shoot where you live, buy a .22LR and use that. 500 times more effective.
not likely. racoons are tough little critters. if you try for a head shot, you might put an eye out. the skin is thick and you won't get penetration if you go for a heart shot. something else to consider is: the pellet is going 800fps at the muzzle, as soon as it leaves the barrel it starts slowing down.
there really isn't enough power to actually kill the coon by hitting it in the heat or lungs. The pellet will go in and probably lodged itself there. Which in that case the coon will run off suffering and then die. By hitting it between the eyes it will hit its brain and knock him out.
yes but try to shoot it as close to or in the eye as possible. It is a real soft spot that goes straight to the brain making a humane kill.
    you probably could

but you're going to mess up and miss eventually

and cause an animal allot of pain

so i would just use a scattergun

    its harder to miss
Yes. However, if possible, you should aim right between the eyes. I take coons like this with a 550 fps .22 all the time.
Definitely! I have an 800fps pelletgun and have shot 6 coons no problem. It works fine.
In theory, sure. In practice, I would step up to 22 wmr
That Should do, if you are 15 yards away aim for the head but if 10 yards away go for the heart.

  • How do I put on under eye concealer without looking like an albino raccoon?

It sounds like the color is too light for you. Try using a darker color and apply under your eye in a circular motion so you blend it in.How do I put on under eye concealer without looking like an albino raccoon?
1 Determine the main color of your under eye darkness. If it appears red or purple dab some green correcter under your eye with your fingers before applying concealer. If they are blue, use yellow correcter. This will neutralize the color and help reduce the overall appearance of darkness.

    # 2 Put on any under eye concealer under your eye using a small concealer brush. Start by dotting the inner corners of your eyes, working your way down. Blend well by dabbing.

    # 3 Rub the under eye concealer into the shimmer powder and dab on some skin-tone colored blush under your eyes to make a blend.

    # 4 Blend, blend, blend. Do not rub.How do I put on under eye concealer without looking like an albino raccoon?
make sure the concealer is an exact match to your skin or just 1 shade off either lighter or darker. put a dab on your skin under your eye. use your ring finger (its the weakest finger and least likely to pull or damage your sensitive eye-area skin) to dab the concealer to blend it. DO NOT rub the concealer in. dabbing it into your skin will make it look more natural and is a lot less likely to cause any skin damage like rubbing will.
First, make sure the the concealer is the right color for your skin!

    I like to:

First, put on the concealer (I like the ones that look like lipstick, their easy to apply and blend) I swipe it under my eye, then pat in with a makeup sponge. I normally have to do this twice, depending on the product and how dark my circles are.

After this, I like to apply a lightly tinted moisturizer, most people say to do this first, but for me it works best to do it second.

Third, apply a transluent powder under your eyes to set the concealer.

Lastly, apply transulent powder lightly all over your face and complete your makeup :)
1.) wash face with skincare products

2.) after entire face is dry I apply loreal eye defense cream

used for teens and older people

3.) after that's dry I apply maybelline corrector concealer yellow color( looks like lipstick)

with a concealer brush or makeup triangular sponge blend it

4.) after that's dry I apply physicans formula pressed transulcent powder

    with a small kabuki brush

    5.apply rest of makeup
do it in a triangle shape.

but the concealer from the outside of your nose from corner of your eye to the bottom of your nose, then across to the other corner.

( sorry thats really confusing i dont know how to explain any other way ) !

    also, the right shade.
If you get the right color for your skin tone it should not look like an albino raccoon.

There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:

Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water %26amp; stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath %26amp; let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K %26amp; Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

The best way to get rid of dak circles is the following.

    1. 8 hours of sleep per night.

    2. plenty of sunlight.

    3. drink plenty of fluids.

    4. lotion or moisterizer.

    5. if you have tried all the above for at least two weeks running without results, it may be time to see a plastic surgeon and get collogen treatments
Dark circles under your eyes indicate stagnate blood. EXERCISE! And more exercise. Yoga is the most effective and profound exercise. Remember, for the body? ';If you don't use it, you lose it.' Bodies need constant exercise, rest and nutrition. Get to know your own body and you won't have to spend time and money paying someone else to tell you all about it. Good Luck.
concealer, there is no magic cream sorry.
    Take mult vitamins...Eat more fruits,vegs.
    vitamin E cream.
Most of the time it's genetic. Using a yellow base under eye concealer is the quickest. Plastic Surgery or laser treatment can block the blood vessels that cause the dark appearance. Many times darkness under the eyes is a sigh of an allergy. I have had dark circles under my eyes since I was kid. Get some rest see, but some good yellow based under eye concealer first. Then I would get consultation with a laser treatment center. Check to see if you have a sensitivity to wheat, grass or milk products.

Absolutely not. Their natural wild instincts will kick in and they become territorial and defensive.

They are also nocturnal and will want to roam about the house all hours of the night.

Forget the idea of a Raccoon and do not bring it up again. You can have a pet rock or an ant farm, but that's all.
I don't think raccoons are very easily domesticated, and since they are basically a wild animal and can become pretty vicious, then no, you can't have one. And, don't ask again. You can have a pet slug.
I don't think so. They're very big and territorial.

I don't think they are tamable. They are also illegal to own in lots of

areas. I found a link for you that will help if you truly want one.
I have a Friend who has raised raccoons they are allot like cats except they make chirping chattering sounds they are up all night they will use a little box . they can climb like no other and they sometimes can be ornery .
If you somehow were able to get a really young one, maybe. Wouldn't suggest it though, they have pretty vicious bites and aren't known for being very tamable.

i agree with rhino720...probably coatis. they look like raccoons with a longish nose and can be tamed fairly easily

i want a pet raccoonWhere can I take a Raccoon for its shots?
Phone the vets in your area and ask if they work with wildlife rehabbers or are trained for exotics. Unless the vet has the training, they won't know how to deal with the raccoon and what care to give it.

You can also phone a wildlife rehab person in your area, just do a google search on them.
You need to have a permit to house a wild animal. I am not sure what the laws are in your state, I recommend calling animal control or your vet.

Can i have a raccoon tail with dark brown hair?

Im trying to do this raccoon tail. but idk will you be able to see it. and do you know what exactly color i need?? you think? Can i have a raccoon tail with dark brown hair?
    ugh those are so lame.

but you'll have to strip/bleach your natural colour, and then dye over the bleached spots.

depending if you want coloured ones or just blonde ones. Can i have a raccoon tail with dark brown hair?
Ok. Its called a coon tail! Get that straight. Second when u say raccoon tail it automatically makes me think POSER! Third ill help. Yes you can do it but you have to have extensions longer than ur normal hair :D. So if you dont cut your hair into a scene style UNLESS YOUR NOT SCENE. If your NOT scene then dont do the coon tail cuz the coon tail is for SCENE people. If you have dark brown hair your scene and u have extensions or a longer part in your hair than you can do it. You can do blonde. Blonde is about the only color that would look good.Dont use a blue pink green etc. etc. That will look ridiculous. But you will have to bleach ur hair so make sure u want em :D
take the part of hair you want and put tape over the parts you want to stay your natural color, then dip your hair in hydrogen peroxide and let it soak in for a few hours

oh and put plastic bag over your that part of your hair so it doesn't drip. use a rubber band to hold it in place

How do you dye raccoon stripes in hair?

whatch this. she is very good at explaining it but she talks kinda quiet so you have to turn your volum up.

i wouldnt do coon tails on your real hair first, i would try it on some extentions first before you do your realy hair so you dont make it look like crap.

i did this on my hair, i loved it, but now i regret it because it made the ends of my hair break off because the dye was to hard on it so now my hair is two different lengths at the end and it pisses me off. so just a warning, be very carful!!!!How do you dye raccoon stripes in hair?
Most people don't. Most of them buy extensions that are already dyed like that.

But the best way to do it I think, is to get a strip of hair (whatever size you want the tail to be), and place hair bleach on the parts that you want lighter (like the lighter squares that you see on the extensions). Though you may want a friend to do this ;/

But using bleach hurts you hair so you might wanna go with the extensions
put stripes of conditioner on your hair first then just put the dye on. the conditioner stops the hair from running.

if it's your first time doing it though i would buy a cheap set of extensions and practice a few times before because i've done it wrong before and it was awful :\
    see your hairdresser
you don't they are just extention.

I have a small water garden. Every time that I add a water lily the raccoon invades Is it the water lily?

Is there something about the water lily that is attracting raccoons to trash my water garden/fish pond. when there is no water lily the coons leave the fish and pond along?I have a small water garden. Every time that I add a water lily the raccoon invades Is it the water lily?
I'd say the water lily is offering the fish a hiding place and the raccoon knows this and is fishing. Have you lost many fish? Also water lilies are food for the raccoons.I have a small water garden. Every time that I add a water lily the raccoon invades Is it the water lily?
Maybe she's using it to freshen up for a date!
Have you tried planting marigolds all around the pond? We had a similar problem, but also with chipmunks, and the marigolds really helped. If you're not familiar with them, they are small orange-yellow flowers with an unusual scent. You can get them quite cheaply at any store that sells flowers. They repel deer and most outdoor animals.
the water garden is giving the racoon a place to wash their hands!its not really the lily!the garbage is what is attracting them, they are scavengers!they always wash their hand before they eat,so they go to the water garden to do it and the lily is probably in the way!try moving the lily to a different spot or try putting in a fake one and see what happens!
OOOHHHHHHHHH YEA They R noisy Lil' fellows and they like water lily's, It can get 2 U ... I know, I have a friend that has a raccoon for a pet. fun to watch them, but I would never have one myself, U can put a wire mesh over the water garden, Who Knows if nothing else it will make them work for the lily's and take longer to get into them. that may help to get after them with a broom or some thing.

    BUT, Please Don't Hurt them. they R a creature of God';

I want to have a pet raccoon later in life. I need to know what it needs inside the house and what I should do to keep its hands off of shiny things.

Anyone had experience with a pet raccoon? if so tell me all about it.

Its legal in my state to get one. I live in Oklahoma. But I plan to move to Montana so I have to check with Montana law.

Also would the raccoon be more calm if I get it neutured?I need more info about having a pet raccoon help?
During my years, I have raised 3. Two were farm bred and one was a wild baby taken in after his family was killed. All were about 4 weeks of age when I took them home.

What I can tell you is the farm babies are very gentle when young but when they reach sexual maturity, they get very insistent and not happy as a house or cage animal. They can and will bite and they are very aggressive when mature.

I am missing the end of my middle finger on my left hand due to a mishap with Bandita. She wanted to dig in the garbage disposal and I wanted her to stop. I lost.

The little wild baby was never sweet like the farm babies and was never comfortable in a home or cage. I had to turn him loose or lose parts when he was about 3 months old. He just wanted to be back home.

http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/raccoons/鈥?/a>I need more info about having a pet raccoon help?
Pet raccoons are a really bad idea. They never get truly tame, can carry a variety of dangerous diseases and can be very messy and destructive. I've even heard of one that was a pet for nearly 10 years and then one night just went into the owners bedroom and started biting and chewing on his face.

They're not domestic animals, so there are no legal vaccines for them. The risk of rabies and other such issues is much higher than with a dog or a cat. They need more time, attention and different care than the other animals and it can be tough to get it right.

My advice: you should really find another species of pet.
I'm not sure how a racoon would do as a house pet. When I was younger we rescued one who's family had been hit on the road. He lived outside, we had a ';house'; up in a tree for him, and he ';fished'; for crayfish out of a bird bath. He was free to leave when he wanted to. He stuck around for about a year and a half... was just like a cat/dog. Came when you called for him blah blah blah. But nature won as it usually does with undomesticated animals and he went his own way. As for keeping his hands off of shiny things... good luck that's what they are interested in.
I don't have any experience with raccoons but I can tell you one thing, it would be a lot of work! I personally don't think it's a good idea since even 'tame' raccoons are still wild. You should be sure you can handle it before you get one.

What does a raccoon do with a weasel in its mouth while walking?

this is baby season... she was probably taking it to her babies to eat. What does a raccoon do with a weasel in its mouth while walking?
Do you mean, you saw a wild racoon walking by, carrying a weasel in it's mouth?? Maybe it was going to eat it.

What will happen if u get caught poaching raccoon out of season if your a minor?

You will be charged for poaching which is a crime..

Further, if you are hunting raccoons in an area where discharging firearms is prohibited, you can be charged with additional crimes. Also, if you are possessing a firearm as a minor without your parent present, you parents can be charged with a crime.

Whether you are charged as a juvenile or adult will depend on your age and the depth of offenses you commit. What will happen if u get caught poaching raccoon out of season if your a minor?
varies by state. Here in Michigan for example, there is a season for raccoon, for pelts. However they are also listed as vermin and may be shot when being a nuisance. Chances are most states have this provision, since they are destructive little critters.

Chances are unless you try either selling the fur or getting it mounted no one will question you or likely even care. If the one you shot or are thinking of shooting is being a pest (making messes around your place, destroying things, etc.) chances are no permit needed. However if you are in town or some other area with firearm discharge restrictions, you will need to abide by those. What will happen if u get caught poaching raccoon out of season if your a minor?
Nothing will happen to you. But your parents will be screwed if your caught.

Just WHY do kids think that anything goes just because there a miner. There are consequences for every action you do.

Good or bad.. Sh-it hits the fan as it has in the past and will always continue for years.
there is no such thing as coon season and the only way you can poach one is if you are tresspassing and as a minor you just need adult supervision
They should dress you as a chipmunk and make you sing ';Muskrat Love'; in front of your entire high school class.
There's a 'raccoon season'? Ok. If thats true, then there is probably just a fine.

You know those alarms that hang off of door knobs, and screech nastily if joggled? Get one of those and hang it off your garbage cans. It should scare them away.

Whatever other preventive measurements you decide to take, don't forget that raccoons have opposable thumbs, so they are more than capable of grasping and manipulating latches and any other non-locking devices.

As to how you find out if it is actual raccoons...if it is really necessary for you, then just put baby powder or baby corn starch down around the ground surrounding your bins. The footprints left behind will be a dead giveaway.

    Besides staying out there watching...

    Video-tape

    If it is ...

Set a Trap or call animal control
Well, aside from the obvious solution of looking inside the trashcan and visually verifying the presence or absence of a raccoon, you need to consider that raccoons are nocturnal, and could be using the trash as a home during the day. If the raccoon leaves the trash at night, I suggest you relocate the trashcan. If you have any reason to suspect that the animal may have rabies, or you simply do not want to deal with it yourself, call your local animal control center.
You don't want to find out, they are vicious. Just ALWAYS keep your trash securely closed and the racoon won't bug you any more. If you have a container that does not close tightly, trash the old one and buy a more secure one.
Iv never even seen a raccoon before. :( i want to though.

DONT, use eyeliner you will have dark circles around your eyes for hours after the costume was needed and it will be a pain to get off. Take a small eye shadow brush and trace the line around your eyes with dark brown/black eyeshadow, not creme. And fill in your shape with a bigger brush. How do you do makeup for raccoon eyes?
Simple, look at the raccoon and use it as your guideline of your face. For instance, where the white fur is near his nose, that's where your mouth lines are (where you see wrinkles on old people) don;t go all the way down your checks just start to lift up toward your outer side of your face when you've reached the bottom of the mouth line. Don't use eyeliner for that because it is a nightmare to get off large areas like when you are doing a look like that! Buy some (if you don't have any) really dark black eyeshadow (make sure it is dark because some turn out grey) If you are still unsure then print if the picture and then look in the mirror and draw your mouth line and eyebrows whatever on the picture and use that as a guideline. Good luck =]
Just get black eyeshadow and smudge way underneath your eyes, maybe with a cream eyeliner, I don`t know...

I am having trouble catching a raccoon in my trap? Can enyone help me ??How do you get a raccoon in a live trap?
Put some fish in it, like sardines or any type fish!*How do you get a raccoon in a live trap?
Make sure the bait is securely attached to the trigger mechanism so when they try to take the bait it will definitely set the trap. Raccoons are omnivores so they will eat just about anything, a peice of chicken should work good for attracting raccoons and triggering the trap.
What ever you use don't put the food on the trap door release.raise the trap and put it under the trap release.Coons are smart little critters. They can remove the food without tripping the door.By putting it under the trap, they will move around enough trying to get the food that it will trip the door.
Put some dog food in there and a bowl of water. Raccoons are very smart. Why are you trying to trap it? Hopefully you're planning to take it to the woods or something....hope it doesn't have any babies. They will just keep on coming back anyway. You won't be able to fully get rid of them. Where I live in southeast Texas they are everywhere. The lady next door said her husband shot one with a bb gun and got rid of the coons once and for all LOL. She must not sit out much at night....and we live in the city off the coast.

I also hope your not planning to have it as a pet....that's dangerous and just.....wrong.

You can also contact your local DNR or your local office of the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Often they will trap and relocate a nuisance animal.

Caution - if you are planning to trap and relocate the animal yourself, rather than calling someone else to do it, make certain that you have the appropriate permits that allow both trapping AND relocation of the animal. In some areas of the country (and I am not familiar with the status in Texas), you can not relocate raccoons into certain areas due to the threat of rabies. If you can and do relocate the animal, be certain that you take it far away, so it does not find its way back, and release it in appropriate habitat, so it can find shelter, avoid predators and not just become some other homeowner's problem.
or... u can get a lid for your trash can and bungie it on..

Of course, I don't even need instructions. I made a Trojan horse once out of popsicle sticks for a school project, weighing only ounces, and kids were literally making bids to buy it! Odd because I held off until the last minute, and got an A+ for it. The weirdest thing. I didn't even have the wheels finished.

    They warn: ';In many states it is illegal to own a raccoon. In many other states it is legal as long as you obtain a permit before purchasing a raccoon. If you have a raccoon in an illegal state or with out a proper permit the raccoon can be seized and destroyed.';

As adorable as Raccoon's are, you should know that in GA they are illegal to be kept as pets. You can get into a lot of trouble and have fines and even some jailtime. Also, having worked with wildlife rehab, Raccoon's are adorable but ALOT of trouble!! If you are really interested in raccoons I would contact your local wildlife rehab center (the Chattahoochee Nature Center is a good one) and see if they are accepting volunteers or interns. That way you can spend time with Raccoons that really need some help and be within the legal laws of GA.

    HAVE FUN!
Raccoon are WILD animals and ARE NOT to be kept as pets. Only if you are going to rehab them. I know someone who does and it's not a good idea to raise a raccoon. Why don't you talk to your local Game and Fish Commission about it please.
It is illegal in Georgia to keep a raccoon as a pet. They are wild animals and they don't make good pets. Also though you may find some goofball criminal who raises some to be pets- they have instincts of wild animals, not domesticated animals so its cruel to make them live as pets.

    http://www.georgiawildlife.org/content/d鈥?/a>

scroll down a little to the list of Mammals- all those animals are not allowed as pets. The list includes raccoons.
You need to have a special permit to own one of those, it's a wild animals. You have to pay an annual fee to have the permit, and if you don't get the permit and they found out you have that animal, they will take it away and you can be charged.

This happened to someone I know-- they actually growled at him and came after him! What would you do if you found a raccoon in your house?
Assuming it is already gone, I'd figure out how it got in and fix it so it won't return. (Check the attic or basement, %26amp; floorboards under sinks, bathrooms, etc.) Otherwise I'd call animal control to trap it, have it observed for rabies (if negative, suggest they release it in some wildlife habitat or zoo). If the raccoon showed signs of being rabid, I'd make sure any mammal pets I own have their rabies vaccine.

If you catch the coon in a haveaheart trap the best method is to drown them or take them the SPCA and have it checked for rabies.

My dog ate it's food after a raccoon got in it. Is it possible for my dog to get rabies from it?

In our shed there's a barrel full of dog food. Over the past month or so this raccoon's been getting in and eating out of the barrel. I'm sure it's saliva dried out, but I know that rabies can be transmitted through saliva. Also, I need to know if I can tell if the raccoon had rabies from knowing that my dog hasn't gotten rabies from it.My dog ate it's food after a raccoon got in it. Is it possible for my dog to get rabies from it?
Finally, a non swine flu related question.

No, I'm pretty sure your dog doesn't have it. Rabies is usually transfered through bites. You should probably call animal control to get the raccoon out, and possibly change food. If your dog starts acting strange, take it to the vet IMMEDIATELY.My dog ate it's food after a raccoon got in it. Is it possible for my dog to get rabies from it?
this raccoon would be dead by now if it had rabies. You could set up a live trap near the food to catch him and take him in to be tested. Once he's been tested and everything is ok, then, take him to a wooded area several miles from your home, and turn him loose. Then, take your dog in and get him vaccinated for rabies. This will take care of the worry.
I don't think a rabid raccoon could live that long. It is extremely unlikely that your dog has rabies, especially if it is current on its shots. If it is not or you are unsure take it to the vet to get it current.
no cuz the only way for something to get rabies is if a racoon tht is not afraid of people bites u so no your dog does not hav rabies but if u r really worried consult the vet
don;t think so but it would be good to have it checked especially if it hasn't had its shots.

How do i catch a wild baby raccoon?

i have found out they are legal to trap in my home state of Texas, and it is also legal to keep them as pets. my grandmother used to have one for years, but it died. i just dont know how to get ahold of one. you cant buy tem because they are considered a wild animal too.How do i catch a wild baby raccoon?
Capturing an animal out of the wild isn't in the best interests of the animal. If you do something that is not in the best interests of an animal it is called animal abuse. ARE YOU AN ANIMAL ABUSER?How do i catch a wild baby raccoon?
They are only legal to trap for hunting or for their fur.

    DEFINITIONS

FURBEARING ANIMALS 鈥?badgers, beavers, fox, mink, muskrat, nutria, opossum, otter, raccoon, ringtailed cat, skunk and civet cat (spotted skunk).

    PROPAGATORS

Possession of live furbearing animals at any time is restricted to licensed furbearing animal propagators, persons authorized under Parks and Wildlife Code, Chapter 43, or representatives of recognized organizations for approved instruction or demonstration purposes.

    RABIES QUARANTINE

It is a Class C misdemeanor to transport or sell live foxes, coyotes and raccoons from, to, or within this state.
You don't. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should. You can jump off a roof, but you really shouldn't.

How would you feed this baby raccoon? How would you care for it? Where would you keep it? How would you deal with the diseases (Like RABIES?) and parasites it carries? Hmmm?

Leave the raccoons alone. If you really wish to have one, go out of state to a breeder. Although no breeder would let you just have one- you will have to live up to standards.
There is no rabies vaccine for raccoons, if you get bitten by one then the state would have to confiscate it and kill it to test for rabies. Not something you will feel very good about.

I wouldn't recommend having a wild animal as a pet. Once they reach sexual maturity they can be very dangerous.
actually you can buy them, and i suggest you do that because they are domesticated and easier to handle...if you decide to catch one i defenatly wouldnt go raiding coon nests, raccoons can be very mean belive it or not...if/when you should ever get one, never feed it anything that has fish or fish ingredents in it unless it is a domesticated one, if you feed fish to it, it triggers there mind that they are wild animals and there wild instincts come back, ive owned a coon before and so has my fiances gramma. there cute but they are not pets to be honest. they are thives too, they will snatch up all kinds of things. my suggestion is to get a normal pet...oya and alot of wild coons carry rabies and other diseases thats how mine died, (not rabies some other disease)
Not a good idea. Raccoons are nocturnal, they sleep all day, and forage for food at night. They are messy, noisy, fierce. They have very specific diet requirements, they are omnivorous, and carry very serious diseases that can be passed to domestic animals and humans in some cases.
Uhhh well i dont know how, but a heads up they really are mean especially if you acctually get them out of the wild. And i doubt a vet would look at it but u never know...just make sure if u do catch one check it for rabies and train it right away not to bite
A live trap which you buy at a hardware or garden store would work for this purpose, but it sounds like a REALLY bad idea!!

It is incredibly difficult to tame wild animals, they don't make very good pets.
you shouldn't trap one. it's probably full of diseases. have you asked your grandmother?

How to take care of a baby raccoon.?

My advice: take him to a professional. Not only should this baby be in the hands of a professional, it's also ILLEGAL FOR YOU TO KEEP HIM. Racoons are wild animals, and that's where they belong. They need special care, lots of feeding, a lot of time, and if you let him get used to humans then ';set him free'; he'll most likely be killed by humans who don't want him around.

Are you a raccoon? Can you teach him raccoon skills he'll need to survive? He needs somewhere he can be raised with as little human contact as possible, or, if lucky, with other orphaned raccoons. I know he's cute and fuzzy, but once he starts destroying your property and infesting your house with parasites you won't feel the same way!

Love raccoons, but leave them where they belong.
OMG! LUCKY! I have wanted a baby raccoon to keep, but my mother said the were vicious, but my opinion stays the same on them, sweet, curious, and cute.

K, don't feed it garbadge, it just eats garbadge cuz its the only thing its got..... canned dog food should be okay, they are carnivores so they'll eat just about anything, are you planning on putting it inside, if you are, i suggest getting it a jungle gym(they love to climb) and a large crate for it to stay in when youre not supervizing him/her. Provide it with LOTS of toys, aw you are so lucky.... dont listen to what people might say, you arnt crazy keeping a raccoon, id pick a raccooon over a cat anyday(as long as it doesnt have rabies=)

    Best of luck!

ps...... It may be really reall yhard finding someone to give it checkups and rabie shots....=S
take it to an animal control center. THey are not domesticated animals, and should not be treated as such. They do not sell certified raccoon food, and hopefully you haven't already scarred this animal for life. If they are with humans too long they will get dependent. Call and animal control so they can release this animal back into the wild.
    No, no, and no again!

Racoons are not sold in pet stores, because they aren't pets. Simple as that.

I volounteer at humane society shelter, and we got three baby racoons once, because the mother was hit by a car. The manager put them in a large cage, or crate, type thing, with a branch and an over-sized farret hamack. She let them out into the tree every day and one day they didn't come back. You need to drive/get sombody to drive you out where there's a forest/woods and release them out into the wild. Racoons will become dependent, and after that stage, will not remember how to live in the wild as it should, and Racoons live for along time, therefor you'll be stuck with it for ages. Not to mention, you never know when it's natural instincts may come up at a time, say you're picking up it's food bowl to change it. If it sees you doing so, it may assume you're trying to 'steal' it's food, and will attack you, even after you let go.

In the wild, Racoons will kill anything that trys to attack it, eat it's food, or if a female, hurt it's young.

Grizzly bear mothers drive their cubs up a tree, every day and let them come down when they have food for them. Eventully, one day they don't go back for their cubs, leaving the young ones to fend for themselves and learn to find food, hibranate, warn off other preditors, mate, have cubs of their own, and do what their mother did to them. It may seem cruel, but it's not. It's the way of life. Keep the Racoon only for a acouple weeks and then let it go. You could always take it to an animal reserve as a second option. It may be hard for you to let this tiny creature out on it's own, but if you truly love it, you'll do the right thing.
I would look up about their nutritional needs..I had a racoon show up at my house and it was eating my dairy goat feed..I also know they eat cat food..but I am not sure what all they need nutrition wise.
What he eats depends on his age. Check out the site below and compare pictures and see how old he is.

From 28 鈥?65 days 鈥?Waring-blend some Purina Puppy Chow into the milk formula 2/3 milk 1/3 formula and make the nipple hole larger. At a bit older than two months (some as early as a-month-and-a-half, I worm the baby with pyrantel pamoate, orally at 11mg/kg (5mg/pound) and do this every 3 days for approximately 3 weeks. Pyrantel pamoate is very low in toxicity because it is not absorbed from the intestine. It is sold under the trade names Nemex and Strongid and also for pinworms in children. At the same time, begin putting shallow, hard to tip or clip-on-the-cage bird dishes in its enclosure, filled with moistened puppy chow (I have always liked Purina Puppy Chow). Poke the baby鈥檚 face gently into the dish and smear some of the concoction on its palate (between it鈥檚 upper teeth) to give him the idea. You will need to use a moist terrycloth towel to clean their fur of caked-on food.

From 8-10 weeks of age, once they are eating the puppy chow well.A live bait store is a good raccoon supermarket.Goldfish are fine, so are gambuzia minnows. you will need to sprinkle the meat with a pediatric or animal vitamin mix and a Calcium supplement or the raccoons will not thrive. They are particularly susceptible to vitamin B-1 (Thiamine deficiencies if dead or frozen fish is fed). Meat is also much too rich in protein and low in fiber to keep an animal healthy.

Raccoon are omnivorous and opportunistic carnivores. In spring they eat primarily animal matter such as: crayfish, fish, arthropods, amphibians, reptiles, a few small mammals and rodents, birds, and eggs. In the summer and fall they eat large amounts of grains, acorns, other nuts, and fruits. In the winter, they live off their fat store as well as carion, an occasional small mammal or rodent and sometimes even bark . Foraging occurs in all saline and freshwater riparian habitats, shallow water, vegetation, and on the ground. Agricultural and urban areas are also common foraging areas. Corn and grapes are among their favorite fruit and vegetable agricultural crops and garbage pails and outside pet dishes are among their favorite urban dining spots. When living adjacent to saltwater habitats, they feed on oysters and other saltwater foods, and may fish for crabs by dropping their tail in the water and jumping forward when the crab catches hold.

I feed a family of raccoons everyday. I live out in the country. The female came first. Then she disappeared for a while. When she came back she had little ones and a mate. So I have a family of them. I place out sunflower seeds, corn, cat food, dog food, left over raw veggies from the garden. They are all doing greaet and well fed. I also place water out for them. They love to wash their food and their little patties.

  • The raccoon ate the top off my Plumeria plants. Is there a way to save the branches?

A friend of mine cuts many of the branches off her Plimeria plants and gives them away ( myself included) She cuts on an angle and then had me wait a week or so and then I stuck the branch in a pot of dirt and didn't water it until I started to see new growth. It took about 3 months. My twig is now covered with new leaves. Good Luck. I don't know if there is a certain time of year that's best to do the cutting or not but she gave me this twig in January. The raccoon ate the top off my Plumeria plants. Is there a way to save the branches?
Plumerias are hardy plants the plant will heal it's self. Put a wire cage around the plant to keep the critters out. The sent will always attract them.

How do I keep a raccoon from continually damanaging my 12X30 swimming pool. We have already tried to cover it.

The raccoon has come 2 nights in a row, and pulls the solar blanket off and last night pulled the extra cover off entirely too that we put on the entire pool as a deterent. The raccoon has put holes in the top ring of the pool. I don't know what to do next. HELP!!!How do I keep a raccoon from continually damanaging my 12X30 swimming pool. Try putting water out for the raccoon, it may be seeking water. Putting a battery operated radio on the pool cover may help. Sometimes the noise will drive them away. A motion detector on the radio is even better, if a bit more involved. Otherwise, call a licensed animal rehabber to come and catch the animal but be aware that the animal will probably be considered a nuisance animal and be killed. If it is captured and has babies somewhere, the babies will slowly starve to death. Very bad karma.

Do not try to capture the animal yourself. Raccoons are well equipped to defend themselves and will inflict nasty bites. They are much quicker than you think. They can also carry rabies. If you must catch the raccoon, leave it to the pros. How do I keep a raccoon from continually damanaging my 12X30 swimming pool. We have already tried to cover it.
Two words - BB gun. Stake out the pool until he comes, and shoot him in the a$$. It won't necessarily kill him, it will just let him know that bad things happen when he comes around.
Someone once told me that placing moth balls around the area that you want to keep raccoons away from will keep them away...MAX
i would say you have no alternative then to trap it in a have a heart trap or shoot it
    Just kill it!
You can purchase ';Big Cat'; (lion and tiger) manure from the garden centers. This practice was discovered in China and is just now catching on in the states. They have learned that spreading this ';dung'; around your property scares off Raccoons, Groundhogs, and even Deer.
get a dog, leave him loose at night.

Does anyone know exactly why the raccoon is retiring?

I would like to know why the raccoon is retiring so fast. It didn't retire yet, but I heard because the material was getting expensive. Is that right? And I would like to know if you have a raccoon webkinz and what is its name! I have one. I named it Bandit.Does anyone know exactly why the raccoon is retiring?
That's an interesting reason to retire the raccoon! I don't know the real answer, but that's possible I suppose. I got a raccoon a few months ago and I named him Jasper!Does anyone know exactly why the raccoon is retiring?
    micheal add me im hannahbananas78
I happen to have 2 raccoons and their names are Jasper and Casper. My friens gave me them for Christmas. I have no idea why they are retiring them so fast. I mean they like just came out!!!! I don't know when it is retiring either!!

Is it possible that a raccoon stole my sunscreen?

I left sunscreen in my backyard. There's a locked gate, so I do not think someone stole it unless they climbed in there. The next day it was gone. Is it possible a raccoon stole it? Or not? This happened last year, but I'm just curious. Is it possible that a raccoon stole my sunscreen?
Your sunscreen probably had coconut in it or cocoa butter. That is what they go for. It is little known fact every year in may, raccoons meet at their annual footwash to get naked and tan out in the swamps of south alabama. Is it possible that a raccoon stole my sunscreen?
Well, I suppose so. Raccoons are known as bandits that steal usually, the junk that we toss out. They can sneak into your tall, metal trashcans and remove the lid, and whatever it takes to get food, so I assume that it could be possible.
Coons, squirrels, crows, maybe chipmunks steal things.
yeah i mean i saw this fat *** raccoon in my yard scaling a tree to get garbage
raccoons eat mostly anything so yes, they eat my trash all the time

How do you skin a raccoon? How much our the coon skins worth, and where would you sell them?

the guy above me covered how to skin them, but i thought id add the prie around my house is usually about 15-20, depending on the condition of the fur and the size of the coon. Any fur trader will take em, just ask some other hunters where they take theirs and where you can get them. Some places wont give you what the bullet to kill it with is worth. How do you skin a raccoon? How much our the coon skins worth, and where would you sell them?
to skin a raccoon you cut the fur around all for of the paws then you cut a straight line from the back leg to the butt hole to the leg (it should be pretty straight) then you cut around the butt hole and pull down on the hid, you then should be level with the tail cut the tail off of the body leaving it conected to the fur then pull the fur down the body till you reach the ears (you will know when this happins) cut them from the body then down to the eyes cut them from the body(always pulling on the fur) then your at the mouth and you cut the tip of the coons nose off and sever the hid from the body at the chin. that is how you skin a coon .....raccoons are worth as much as $18 this year and you sell them to the local buyers

I am looking for a homemade trap tutorial like preferably for a foothold.. i want it to be real practical like something i can run on a trap line.. What is a website for a tutorial for a homemade practical raccoon trap...?
Kind of nasty things and are you sure they are legal where you live? Is raccoon fur really worth the bother these days? The only leg hold traps I know of are Victor type and I really don't see how you would make one yourself without a metal working shop.

Go to a pet store and buy some spray designed for stopping dogs chewing and spray it where you don't want him to go after a while of this bad stuff he will stay away for good!Good luck!
Raccoons are repelled by peppermint. Put peppermint oil on cottonballs, and leave them around the pool. Works for rodents too.
He thinks it's a lake or something, raccoons are really into bathing in water. Build a little deck, so he can just walk right up to the waters edge, without tearing anything up. I don't think you can get rid of him, so comprimise. Best wishes
I'd with the euthanasia crowd. Shooting with a well placed .17 cal pellet would probably be my first choice.
Crushed red pepper or moth balls will help you. Another thing would be to pour ammonia around the pool, this will work for a temp fix. Call your local game commision and tell them about your problem, they might come and live trap it for you.
set a trap (a metal one) with water in a dish or something. That's what it sounds like it's trying to get to. Then you can ';relocate'; it by taking it to a park that's a few miles from your house. Or you can get animal control to take it away.
    trap it or shoot it
You'll need a mongoose, duct tape and a handful of rock salt.
get a trap and capture it and then take it somewhere far enough from the house and set it free.
get a motion sensor light and sit in the yard and wait for it to come with a .243, and wait for the lights to come on, then SHOOT THE COON!
Quietly sit on the back porch with some coffee in a sleeping blanket, or lay. Keep your .22 rifle ready, when the raccoon approaches, you may wanna use bait to get it to come out for sure, pop one round right through its little head. Very simple, I used to have to kill dozens of them on the island I grew up on. Remember, they are just rodents.
Slowly breath in and out, in and out, relaxing as you do so, then as you slowly exhale, hold it for just a second as you gently s-q-e-e-z-e the trigger......
trap it or call pest control
first of all traps are bad you can relocte it but he might find his back

second traps suck cause yo now have a live and mad coon you have to deal with cause you have to let it out

    so now you 2 options

1 get a dog that hates coons then deal with the problems caused by the dog

2 kill the coon with a well placed (preffeabley lead) projectile traveling at high rate of speed then just don't burry it in the pet cemetary or it will return

I guess we all over looked the last option get rid of the pool. then the coon might just stay away.

if all else fails call the cops and have the coon arested for tresspassing
Trap it with a Havaheart Trap. Take it somewhere else.
Set a few traps (cages) with food in them. My friend had a problem with raccoons in her attic. They easily caught them with those cages.

    Or call a professional.

Do you need to have a license to own a raccoon in Virginia?

How would I go about getting one? And more importantly, are there any breeders that I could possibly get a raccoon from?

I'm actually from Washington, but will be moving soon to Virginia, and I figured, I'd start researching now so that I come armed with this information. Any answers are always much appreciated =)Do you need to have a license to own a raccoon in Virginia?
The better question is, why would you need to have a license to own a raccoon? Is there no end to the rediculous taxes governments impose on people simply to ensure that they don't have to get real jobs and do real work.

If I were you I would just not tell anyone that I had a raccoon...

What is the best raccoon bait?

I have a family of raccoons that keep killing my chickens. I need to trap them and kill them. What is the best raccoon bait to use? would chicken liver be good? Any other suggestions?

I don't want to hear how evil I am for ';killing innocent animals'; they have killed four of my chickens so far. if you don't have any constructive advice pertinent to the question, don't bother. What is the best raccoon bait?
Canned sardines seem to work pretty good in a box type trap. If you can find where they are walking and no other animals are using the same path, just put a leg hold trap in their access if leg hold traps are legal. What is the best raccoon bait?
canned sardines or tuna work the best for me.

you can also buy a liquid bait at like bass pro shops, cabelas, etc. that is made just for that. it works very well for me too
small children NO lol actually you can just use about anything raccons are kinds like scavengers so u can use anything from canned chicked to cat food

make sure that they can smell it from far away
Lol ';raccoon bait';. You must be from Florida.
I trap racoons with a live trap and cat food. They love the canned cat food in any flavor.
sardines work great, I have also had great luck with canned tuna.
I've trapped hundreds of them, in box traps, using canned sardines for bait
marsh-mellows or marshmelow cream works great. I don't know why but they seem to love it.
    rat poison

Why would a mom raccoon take 2 babies with her but leave 1?

My friend has been trying to get raccoons out of his chimney. He finally got the mom to leave; she took 2 of the babies and left 1. Why would she do that and the baby has not had food for 3 days now. How should we handle this.

The plan is to put paper over the chimney tonight to see if she is coming back, if she isn't we'll remove her tomorrow and take her to the wildlife rescue. Why would a mom raccoon take 2 babies with her but leave 1?
There might be something wrong with the baby, or it could be the weakest out of the three. The mother might be able to sense that, and does not think it will survive, so she left it. You should consult your local animal rescue/store and get advice on feeding it so it does not die.Why would a mom raccoon take 2 babies with her but leave 1?
Thats a good plan, go with that.
You should have already removed the baby.Do it now.
A lot of times, sad as it will seem, when a wild animal only take part of her liter with her it's because the one left behind is sick. Whether the mother returns or not, it's best that you not remove that baby yourself. With wild animals it's always best to let the wildlife people who are trained to do those thing take care of the problem.

I have a baby raccoon that is spoiled with eating grapes..he wont eat anything else..how could i change that?

I need a coon expert to answer this question. No ignorant people who think they know everything. Thanks.I have a baby raccoon that is spoiled with eating grapes..he wont eat anything else..how could i change that?
I am feeding two orphans that appeared in my yard. They eat kitten chow and like water served with it on the side. Try mixing the grapes with it...it contains the nutrients the babies need. Don't feed cow's milk...gives them diarrhea. You can give him a mix of carnation evaporated milk, egg yolk, small amount of white Kayro syrup and water.I have a baby raccoon that is spoiled with eating grapes..he wont eat anything else..how could i change that?
I am no expert on raccoons but it is common sense that no animal can live on grapes alone. This is not to insult you, just supplying facts. He likes the sweetness but is not getting the nutrition.

Actually raccoons are not the best of pets because they are natural explorers and aggressive when they get older. It would be impossible to return him to the wild, but giving him to a wildlife sanctuary would be the kindest and most humane act you could do. Good luck.
Actually, I'm surprised that you have a raccoon. I didn't think they were allowed as pets anymore. I had one when I was a child. Lots of fun! However, they can become very mean/aggressive and probably better off in the wild. If I remember correctly, I used to give mine vegetables, all kinds and since they love to wash their food before eating it was fun to give him grapes, and such to eat. Wasn't so cute when I had him on a leash and he got scared and climbed my friends leg and crapped! We still laugh about that today! Good fun! However, we ended up letting our Rascal go, but sure love the memories of him!
i think you can try feeding him a high quality cat food, well at the very least i know that they do eat cat food because this freakishy large raccoon started coming to our house and eating the cats food and i live in the middle of a fairly big city near LA so a raccoon on my back porch was soooo unexpected lol, i think there cute as babies but me and my neice were honestly scared of if, it could of had something to do with the fact that its eye was missing or badly hurt and thats the eye he always had pointed at me i was going to call animal control but i was worried that they would kill him or something plus he only came around at night and he never bothered anyone, anyways just google racoon care im sure you'll come up with something helpful.
We have reared two raccoons in the past. We learned that they will eat cat food (dry) and it has everything it will need but some fresh veggies is a requirement too. A word of advice if I could. I don't know the laws in your state, (some states don't allow you to have raccoons for pets), but if you do, please have the little guy fixed before it gets old enough to reproduce. If you don't, they get very wild and can get mean. We were told this by our Vet, and they stayed calm all their life. Others we knew didn't and had a major problem on their hands, and wound caging it without enjoying it, or putting it down. Check with your Vet, but please keep that in mind. They can be a wonderful pet, but need to be fixed very young to keep them from turning wild.
okay i had sesame problem to what i did is always not to let his iv en taste is he Will be hungry and eat any food want try i remember dint show him your grape any thing but not grape if nothing ha pen go to the vet my be he was Barn to eat grape that it pals... any one let me be your best answer
try mixing the grapes in with something else and the gradually put less and less grapes in it.
    Hmm Try iot a Carrot!

    I wish i had a raccoon!
Give it a raw egg! Really !!!

    Ours Loves them

    How to Trap Raccoons

by eHow Home %26amp; Garden Editor

    Introduction

Most people are familiar with raccoons. They are commonly seen living among people and typically do not create much of a problem. Raccoons are nocturnal and are usually out only after dark. However, they can sometimes become a nuisance, getting into trash cans or making their homes inside of your house. In these cases, it might be necessary to trap them with a live trap.

    Instructions

    Difficulty: Moderately Easy

    Things You'll Need

    * Live animal trap

    * Bait

    Steps

    1

    Step One

Check your state and local ordinances to make sure it is legal for you to trap raccoons. Also find out if you can release it after you trap it, and if you can where you are supposed to release it. In some states it is illegal to release a trapped raccoon, so if you trap it you must then humanely kill it.

    2

    Step Two

Set a live trap, or a few traps in the raccoons normal path of travel. The traps should put someplace where you can easily monitor them.

    3

    Step Three

Bait the trap. Raccoons will eat almost anything, so baiting them into a trap is not usually difficult to do. The easiest thing to use to bait a raccoon trap is dry cat food that contains seafood.

    4

    Step Four

Wire the second door closed if your trap has two doors. Raccoons can be quick and can sometimes escape from a trap that uses a two open door method. It is best to use a one door trap or to wire the second door of your trap closed, turning it into a one door trap. This way the raccoon will have to go all the way to the back of the trap to eat the bait and you will have a better chance of catching him in the trap.

    5

    Step Five

Check the traps first thing every morning. Raccoons are nocturnal so you will most likely catch them in the middle of the night.

    6

    Step Six

Relocate or humanely kill the trapped raccoon, depending on your state and local ordinances.

I WISH YOU WOULD LEAVE HIM ALONE! But if you can't call project wildlife. They catch him and hopefully relocate it in a safe place. I hope your intentions are good...

What is your favourite recipe for squirrel? Or for raccoon? How about possom?

Please post your favourite road kill or varmint recipes.

What is your favourite varmint, and how do you all like to fix it up?What is your favourite recipe for squirrel? Or for raccoon? How about possom?
Baked beaver tail is awesome! In the oven on about 300 for an hour and a half. Add onions. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan. YUM!What is your favourite recipe for squirrel? Or for raccoon? How about possom?
I don't care for possum or raccoon; to greasy. Squirrel is not bad. You bread it and cook like chicken.
I actually ate squirrel once at a party. It wasn't bad!

They BBQ'd some of it and baked some of it like chicken.

Is a captive raccoon's aggression during/after mating season reduced by spaying/neutering?

Or are you not supposed to spay/neuter them at all? All I ever hear is about their aggression around mating season, but nothing has ever said whether S/N changes them, or whether you are not supposed to do it at all.Is a captive raccoon's aggression during/after mating season reduced by spaying/neutering?
';captive-racoon';- did you buy this coon from a breeder or is it stolen from the wild?
