I have a very large Raccoon getting up in my attic, other than shooting it, and trapping it. What else works?

I have tried catching it in a live trap, and the trap is just too small and I have not found a bigger one. The coon is just too long for the door to close behind him. This is one of the biggest coons I have ever seen! He is getting in thru a hole in the soffits and facia, I cover the hole and he tears right back in. Actually I think it is a she and she may be pregnant, and looking for a place to have her babies. It is warm up there, if I were her, thats where I would go.. However, I do not want them in my house! I heard that soaking meat in some antifreeze helps, but can't find that info on the net. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks a bunch!I have a very large Raccoon getting up in my attic, other than shooting it, and trapping it. What else works?
It sounds to me that you do not want to harm her, you just want her gone. Antifreeze is a poison, if you didn't kill her you'd probably kill her babies.

Call you local animal control, they work with other wildlife organizations. They should have larger traps. But raccoons are very smart so it may take a while. I suggest you start putting out a bowl of water and some sardines for her. Then put some in the trap when the animal control people bring it. This would improve you chances of succeeding quickly if she's use to getting these treats.

They would either keep her until her babes are born or relocate her into the wild.

Good luck.I have a very large Raccoon getting up in my attic, other than shooting it, and trapping it. What else works?
Anti-freeze will kill it. Please don't do that. Once she has her litter it's gonna be absolute hell getting her out of there. Our local animal shelter had traps but they were the size that would only be good for a rabbit. A racoon size cage is about as tall as a chair seat-bottom. I bought one at a farm and ranch supply called Gebo's. The raccon size cost me a little over $50. I was catching cats before someone told me to bait it with a plain, raw egg just past the trip floor.

If you live out in the country, the game warden should help you. Large cat pee scares them and there is other repellants. Call around to the veterinarians. There's a product called HavAHart.
try to lure it out with some corn or something (LOL) and turn get some wiring and wood and board it back up and make a nice warm place it somewhere so it won't try to get back in.

like the saying goes,

';If you can't beat it, join it '; or something like that. do something that work for the two of yalls , LOL
Get it out by luring it with food... and once it leaves, cover all the cracks, windows and gutters and little crevices with chicken wire. Don't just stick it up there but rather adhere it well, nail it up there... because if the animal thinks that your attic is its home, it will rip off whatever you put up to try and keep it out. They have hands, and are very intelligent animals...

You have to follow it to see where it is getting in and out. but be careful because adult raccoons are VERY aggressive!

Once it is out... Go to your local ASPCA and rent out some of their cat traps. They give them to you and you bring them back when they are full. They are special wire cages that the animal can get into but not back out of... Spring traps.
So you think poisoning the raccoon and letting it die in your attic sounds like a good idea? I say ooohhhh dont't. A friend got a raccoon trapped in her attic when she was having her roof redone. The smell in the entire house was horrible. You need to just suck up the$200 it will cost toget a professional animal trapper in to remove the raccoons. A full grown raccoon is not something you want to mess with. And if shehas babies shewill be absolutely ferocious. There is no other way-- get a pro. Good luck -k-
You can make a funel shape out of chicken wire putting the larger opening in your attic and the smaller side through the hole in the soffit make the smaller side of the funnel half the size of the soffit hole. this will allow the racoon to exit the attic if it is in there when you put the chicken wire in place. The smaller hole on the out side will prevent him from climbing back inside. Be sure to fasten the chicken wire securely
get a big dog and let them fight to the death
spread moth balls in your attic, they dont like the smell.
Please don't put anything out with anti-freeze. Antifreeze is dangerous to all animals. Call your animal control office and see what they can suggest. The one here offers the loan of the larger animal traps or can set one out for you.
Call Animal control, Then make your attic racoon proof. Or just shoot yourself in the head
do not oak meat in antifreeze. it will kill her. Call your local animal control. they can trap and remove her. just make sure that she has not had hnd that is her babies, you do not want them to die in your attic. you might want to wait til summer-then you know the family has moved. then fix your soffit so that she can't get in next year. I had a raccon that lived in my garage attic every year and that is how i did it-
