What is the song ';Rocky Raccoon'; by the Beatles REALLY about?

Ok, so...Rocky Raccoon is of course set in the old west and stuff like that. But I've heard MANY things of what it symbolizes. Like a Christian group was protesting the Beatles or stuff like the prediction of John Lennon's death.

Is this song just about what the lyrics say? Or something more? What is the song ';Rocky Raccoon'; by the Beatles REALLY about?
Like you said, it's about a cowboy.

Don't analyze I am the walrus. John wrote it that way on purpose. What is the song ';Rocky Raccoon'; by the Beatles REALLY about?
';Paul. Couldn't you guess it? Would I go to all that trouble about Gideon's Bible and all that stuff?'; -John Lennon, 1980

It's just another of Paul's little off-beat quirky songs.
The song very well could have been a metaphor to prove some deeper point, but as far as I can tell, it is just a silly, offbeat song about the spiritual revival of a racoon.
