What is the best way to get rid of a large male raccoon?

I would call Jed, hes always hunt'n fer some food, maybe Granny could cook em up fer ya.... (Sorry).. I crack myself up sometimes. What is the best way to get rid of a large male raccoon?
Local Animal control. ';RACS'; are so under rated as carnivors and opportunists...never mind the myth that every RAC carries rabies, They will fight ya no matter.

It's quite possible...NO OFFENSE,,,that the territory you now inhabit USED to be HIS??? AND quite possibly where there is a male,,, females are not so far away. The males will not fight for the safety of any babies, but they will ';protect'; what they feel is theirs.

Beyond all that, our species helps them remain in what we took away from them by leaving trash cans out; animal food bowls out; etc.

call the spca and they will relocate it. you shouldn't try to do it yourself because they can carry rabies and other diseases.

or get a dog. my dog scared away all the racoons that came into our yard to eat oranges. he eventually killed one that wouldn't go away.
cheat on him
I'd go for trapping and relocating it. We did that with a number of possums. Just make sure that when you release it, you do it in an unpopulated area far away -- not just down the block. It needs to be many miles, or he'll just find his way back.
living in canada... i have a lot of experience with racoons.

there are a variety of things that should work.

1) clean up any garbage, wrappers, compost etc around the area.

2) put Moth Balls in your garden/planters, along your sidewalk, anywhere the racoon goes.

3) cayan pepper, bought in the spice department of grocery store, sprinkle that in the same places that u put the moth balls.

and make sure that if you have a bird-feeder, that you clean up any spilt bird-seed. they like that too.

hope this helps!
a large female raccoon
let lose a large female recoon
In an urban/ suburban area, I'd call the local Animal Control. Racc-a-Roons are not something to try to trap or relocate on ones own.

On our Rural ranch... we just pop the lil bugger.

I DO like the answer that suggests you find him a female raccoon to distract him...
Trap and relocate it or call the humane society/ SPCA.
I live in a neighborhood surrounded on 3 sides by large city park and national park. Our SPCA doesn't handle raccoons for obvious reasons. They are wild animals. Important just not to feed them and to block up any areas on your building so they can't move in.

They are dangerous and cunning. You and your pets should away from them.

They moved into the residential neighborhood after a year when we had a severe storm causing the loss of many trees in the surrounding park areas.
Either get a have a heart trap and relocate it or kill it. You can put rat poison in dog food and he is history.
The best way? 12 ga shotgun. If this doesn't sit well with you, then I'd just leave it alone.
