How to get rid of a raccoon who is trying to nest under my house?

I've got a raccoon who is getting under the foundation to my house and tearing out the insulation to nest. It's causing a lot of damage but the wild life experts are fighting with our community association; both are saying it's the others responsibility to take care of it and neither one is. I live by a lake that is heavily wooded and the raccoons around around here are very domesticated and not afraid of humans, lights or loud sounds. I was thinking of trapping it and moving it myself; but when I do catch it how do I move the trap? The raccoon is not going to be happy, especially since I think it may a mother raccoon who is trying to nest and I don't want her trying to bite or claw at me.How to get rid of a raccoon who is trying to nest under my house?
raccoon hunters can come remove it or try a cat trap yourselfHow to get rid of a raccoon who is trying to nest under my house?
If you want them gone quickly, here's another option. Buy an ultrasonic repeller and/or a motion activated strobe. Humane and effective. I don't work for them, I just believe in not hurting the animals. http:// raccoon-x.com / utrasonics.htm [take out the spaces.]

call the animal cops and see what they can do
buy a coon dog...that's what i'd do
All the answers are on the right track in that:

You want to make the location as unappealing as possible. Short of tossing your own feces under the house to make it too disgusting for them (hey, I've heard it all), the hair clippings are a great idea, as well as moth balls, and more. Rags soaked with ammonia will really piss them off, and you could launch those with a kid's toy. So the whole idea is to keep saturating the area with nastiness and make it as annoying and noisy and ';active'; as possible for her; all perfectly unsuitable conditions for nesting.

Another idea is to use a long rake or 2x4 to push long BRIGHT strands of holiday or rope lights under the house. The lights won't scare her, just make it annoying.

And IF you get to trap her in a box trap of some kind that seals tightly, it's just a matter of taking it to some very remote location and realeasing her, dressed in sturdy clothes for protection and finding some way of opening the latch without being too close to the door.

This all buys you time while you find more effective ways of sealing the foundation from unwelcome dwellers.

Good Luck... :)
Even if you trap the coon and release it somewhere, it or another one will come back.If you do trap it wear heavy leather gloves to protect your hands. Try to make your crawl space inhospitable to the animal.Look into a predator scent to put in there. You might find it at a store that carries things for hunting. Even ask some one at the store. They could be a good source for information.
In the case of a raccoon, raccoons tend not to go anywhere near an area that has human scent and I have found through personal experience that if you go to a barber shop and ask to get some of the hair clippings by placing the clippings in a little bag in the area the raccoon is pooping will cause them to stay away. If it becomes an extreme nuisance you might want to get a trap that will catch the animal and you can place it in another area or hire a professional to take care of it. Also you can go to petsmart and ask an associate they should have a spray called ';Boundary'; and if you spray it around your property it should keep the raccoon from coming anywhere near your house. I hope this helps! Good luck!
you should be able to go to your local humane scociety and borrow a live/ humane trap. u put it under the house with some tuna or penut butter or wet cat food, and snap its in a cage. take it to the woods and let her go or leave it to the experts. you can also( and some may say this is cruel but judge for yourself) get a spring powered( not co2) air soft pistol they shoot a 6mm plastic ball, it is enough to be irritating but not enough to actualy hurt it,(as long as it is spring powered NOT co2) and when u see it just keep shooting at it and around it. they are verrrrry smart and it shouldnt take to long for it to figure out that this nest is not a safe location, expecialy if it is pregnant, she will want the most undisurbed place to nest.
Racoons hate the smell of moth balls just throw some under the house this should get rid of them!!LOL
shoot it or mix coke with anti freeze and leaveit out, it should drink it and then die. (remove it from under your house, it will stink.)
