How to make a model of a raccoon and a hummingbird?

I have two teenage kids that have to make raccoon and hummingbird model for science class in high school. Does anybody have any ideas on making either one. They have to be 8 x 11. Thanks for any ideas. (they can't be made out of paper)How to make a model of a raccoon and a hummingbird?
What about paper mache, it is easy to shape and then can be painted in detail after it is dry.

1. Carve them out of a block of wood.


2. Cut them out of a block of Styrofoam.


3. You may find models in toy stores that allow construction of birds and animals.
