What keeps drawing a raccoon into my courtyard every night?

He comes almost every night and I'm scared to leave my house at night for fear he will attack my ankles! Is there a plant or something that could be drawing him in? Please HELP!!!! I want to go out at night.What keeps drawing a raccoon into my courtyard every night?
