Will a helpless raccoon kill one of my cats?

Earlier this afternoon i saw a raccoon roaming in my neighborhood. I do not know if he is hungry or not. About a half hour ago i let some of my cats outside because they like to walk around the front yard. Now im thinking if the raccoon will hurt my cat. Im very worried can someone help me?Will a helpless raccoon kill one of my cats?
If it came to a fight, a raccon would probably win. But I'm pretty sure that as long as the cat leave the raccon alone, the raccon will leave the cat alone. I don't think a raccon will hunt the cat- It's mainly a scavanger, and is probably way more interested in your trash can. (Or cat food, dog food, chicken eggs, road kill, whatever-)

If he hangs around and you are unconfortable, because of possible diseases, you can always call local Animal Control. If you see him walking around in broad daylight alot, and especially if he walks up to you in broad daylight, definately call animal control (He might have rabies if he does this... it isn't natural) If they (A.C) come and set a trap, if they don't tell you to even, I would keep your cats in.... If anything I would think the raccoon would be scared... Being the cats territory and all...
cats are curious creatures if they were to go and investigate a raccoon they'd paw at it and stuff to see what it is and of course the raccoon would protect itself. so it'll probably tear it up quite a bit have you seen their teeth big'ol things!!!
the raccoon shouldn't bother your cat, they usually stay away from each other. If the racoon would have rabies, or be sick, maybe but not likely. I wouldn't be too concerned, I have had the same scenario with no problems.
Probably not, racoons come up on our porch with the cats laying next to their bowl. The cats usually just watch the coon,and there has never been a problem Now if we let our dogs out, that is another story.
Typically, no the cat and raccoon will stay away from each other. As mentioned though, if the raccoon has rabies, there is a good chance he will go for your cat, or any other animal for that matter. To play it safe, I would keep the cat in tonight.
your cats will msot likely stay away from it.. But dont mess with the racoon, they can kill large dogs.
It's a possibility. My friend's chihuahuas were killed by raccoons.
If the coon has rabies (very likely) your cat could get it. In a fight, the coon is generally larger so yeah, I wouldn't chance it. Coons can climb trees as well as cats so a cat couldn't get away. Bring the kitties inside.
