My cat is grey, has yellow eyes, and a striped tail. Normally I would think this is just a usual cat but he nudges his food into the water bowl before eating. I am told raccoons also do that to their prey before eating. Are there any cat/raccoon experts who can tell me if he has the slightest bit of raccoon in him?How can I tell if my cat is part raccoon?
Racoons and cats can't breed. Some cats like to play with their food before eating. It is part of their natural hunting behavior. You may find that he will also put toys into the water bowl. What a cute kitty! How can I tell if my cat is part raccoon?
From the website http://www.messybeast.com/marten-cat.htm鈥?/a>
Cats are come in a variety of sizes, fur lengths, colours and shapes (tailless, bob-tailed, folded ears, short legs etc). There are also various birth defects which can make one animal superficially resemble another. The visual appearance of a cat which resembleso another animal does not mean it is a hybrid. To be authenticated, a ';hybrid'; must undergo DNA analysis and (if the offspring dies or is stillborn) post mortem, or it must have been bred under strict laboratory conditions where its parentaage was controlled and recorded. If it proves to be a genuine hybrid, this would be announced in medical and veterinary papers worldwide and the scientist, breeder or discoverer would be able to sell the story worldwide to TV stations, magazines etc.
What about cabbits, squittens and racoon-cats? These hybrids are genetically (if not physically) impossible, but people still want to believe in them. Stories about these hybrids appear in talk-shows, cartoons and alongside ';Elvis seen in Fast Food Restaurant'; headlines in tabloid newspapers. This piece is devoted to these weird and impossible hybrids.
Perhaps your cat is just attempting to soften the food. You don't say how old your cat is, but perhaps its teeth need to be checked.
Hi there,
Inter species breeding of raccoons and cats are impossible, so your kitty is not a cross breed. There is an urban legend that the Maine Coon developed from hybridization between these two species, but it is just that.. a myth. Here is an interesting article about these myths, just scroll down to the cat's area.

Some cats have very ';strange'; eating habits and little
amusing antics when it comes to food and water. Some cats even pick up their food in their paws and eat it that way. I have a cat that likes to drink water after gathering some in his paw. It is not very successful but he seems to enjoy doing it now and again. I have had cats that like to drop their toys into the water dish... so there are a wide variety of little actions that some cats enjoy.. most of them are very mysterious to their people!
It sounds like you have a grey, yellow-eyed tabby cat with a ';ringed'; tail. He must be very pretty. But don't worry, he has absolutely no raccoon genes at all.
Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy the article!

You are kidding, right? Cats and raccoons do not mate. They are both species specific when it comes to procreation.
Get separate water and food bowls (preferably not plastic) and don't put them next to each other.
Haha. I'd say you've got a typical moggy cat. Interspecies breeding between a cat and a raccoon is impossible. I'd say you've just ot a unique cat :-P
Its impossible for a cat and racccoon to mate and produce anything. You have a typical tabby domestic shorthair.
NO
