How do you know if a raccoon has rabies?

I know what rabies is. But how can you tell a raccoon has rabies when it's dead?How do you know if a raccoon has rabies?
You can't. It has to be taken somewhere and have the brain removed and evaluated. It's the only way to know. Rabies effect / live in the brain.
